Join local food enthusiasts in celebrating the release of The Davis Farmers Market Cookbook at a book signing on Saturday, June 16 at the Davis Farmers Market, from 10 to 11 a.m.
Co-authored by award-winning cookbook author, Georgeanne Brennan and former Davis Mayor and food activist, Ann Evans, the cookbook is filled with more than 50 full-color photos of local farmers, ranchers and food vendors, as well as more than 80 recipes featuring local products. It also documents the history of one of California’s earliest and most renowned markets and celebrates the food produced by small farms in California.
Evans and Brennan organized the book to provide people a simple, easy way to cook farm-fresh food throughout the seasons. The book details eight recipes to adapt to any season, followed by four chapters–one for each season–with each chapter containing about 20 recipes. Chez Panisse founder and food activist Alice Waters wrote the book’s foreword.
Brennan is the author of more than 30 books, winning a James Beard Award for best international cookbook in 1998 for her book, The Food and Flavours of Haute Provence. Her book, Apertif: Recipes for Simple Pleasures in the French Style, won a Julia Child Award for best wine or beverage book that same year. Evans co-founded of the Davis Farmers Market and the Davis Food Co-op, and served on Davis City Council from 1982 to 1990, and as mayor of Davis from 1984 to 1985.
